As charity trustees, it is important that Managing Trustees keep updated on the latest guidance, as well as the expectations, legal duties, and best practices placed upon you. The Legal and Constitutional Practice Team (LCP) have asked us to let you know that the Charity Commission are hosting some free online webinars for you to attend. So, why not make the most of these sessions! They are free to join and hosted by industry professionals, ready to share their knowledge.  

The Key Subject Areas covered in these webinars will be as follows: 

Charity law requirements and trustee legal duties; 

Good governance, including risk management and decision making; 

Best practice and the Commission’s expectations.

This webinar will cover what your trustee duties are with regards to managing a faith charity. It will consider: 

What being a trustee means, the six main charity trustee duties, the role of the Charity Commission, (including when things go wrong), common issues that can arise in faith charities and how to avoid them, signposting to where you can get further help and guidance.

Developing a culture to protect your charity against fraud, internal financial controls, due diligence on donors and partners, cybersecurity, signposting to where you can get further help and guidance.

Date: 11 December 12:00PM - 13:00PM 

This webinar will provide guidance on Understanding Charity Structures for trustees and representatives of faith charities, as places of worship, who are thinking about incorporating or converting to the Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) structure. 

The webinar will explain charitable structures and the steps to take to convert or incorporate your charity to a CIO structure. The following topics will be covered: 

Charity structures, the benefits of incorporating or converting to a CIO, what you need to do to incorporate or convert to a CIO, tips for registering a CIO.  

The PowerPoint presentations for these webinars will also be available following the sessions should you wish to refer to them. You can also click on the ‘Join Teams Meeting’ link on any session that has already taken place which will provide a recording of the session for you to watch in your own time.
